[...] Samantha: Many people read about poor Uzzah and are angry with God and don’t understand why he was struck dead–after all, he was only trying to help. After studying about the tabernacle, the ark, and how holy God is, it should make perfect sense why Uzzah received the punishment he did. God was very specific on how the ark was to be transported; rings were constructed so that acacia wood poles could be used to carry it (Exodus 25:10-15). David and the Levites simply did not inquire of the Lord to learn the proper way to move the ark–they just did what they thought was best, regardless of the instructions. David took a shortcut by placing it on a cart instead of having Levites carry it. Uzzah’s death caused David to go back to the word of the Lord and read the instructions before finally moving the ark to Jerusalem (1 Chronicles 15). Today we have the benefit of having God’s word written down and easily accessible, and yet we (individually and collectively) still take shortcuts and try to obey and worship God our own way, regardless of the instructions. God may not strike us down like he did Uzzah, but we need to be on our guard because ignorance of the law is not an excuse. [...]

I really wanted to post a YouTube video of Josh and the Big Wall, but I couldn't find just the right clip. That's also my favorite VT movie by far, and it was actually the first one I saw too, so it's a little nostalgic too. :-)

I wonder if that's why Joshua told them not to say a word, because he knew exactly what they would be saying? ("If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.")

I love this story b/c it always conjures up images from my favorite Veggie Tales movie ever, and songs of course, such as "It's plain to see your brains are very small to think walking will be knocking down our wall." Love it!!

Speaking of what was missing, Ryan, I thought about the grumbling that was probably present but not mentioned, but I also thought about how Joshua told them to not even say a WORD while they were marching. I wonder what happened to ol' Habib when he leaned over to whisper to his brother that his legs were tired?

I just finished reading all of the Lineage of Grace books. All of them really opened my eyes to a new perspective on all the lives of those women! NONE of them had an easy life like you might think they would. A good reminder for when I think my life is hard! :)

Ryan - I don't know how many times the Holy Spirit has prodded me to act when I have done nothing. Thanks for the reminder!

Samantha - God is so sure does have a lot of "common sense" doesn't He? :) "Don't cut down trees that give you food!" Just so practical!

Please remember that I do read your blog every day and really look forward to it. Sorry I've been lousy about commenting! I'll try harder!

Love you guys!

That 3D Bible project is pretty cool!

Something that struck me from these readings was how God continued to talk about sanctifying Nadab and Abihu, even though he knew that they were going to turn around and end up being fools. He is always trying to give us chance after chance, hoping we will turn to Him!

That's a great point--sin is still crouching at the door. The same cycle nearly repeats itself during Moses' time when God again threatens to kill everyone and start over with Moses. I see what you mean by God's plan not being starting from scratch--sin is still here. Thus begins the focus of the Old Testament on why we needed a savior!

Noah is described as "a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God." Twice it is said that "Noah did everything just as God commanded him" (6:22, 7:5). But later we see that he showed his humanness by getting drunk and lying naked. So God did not get rid of all the evil in the world by having the flood come. To do that He would have had to get rid of all mankind. But that was not his plan. It is reassuring that God knows the big picture and has a master plan. I am glad that He is in charge and I am not.

Good thoughts Ryan! I wish more men would take their responsibility of being the spiritual leader in their families more seriously. What is a woman supposed to do when he doesn't?
Pray. Pray more. Pray even more. Don't give up praying.

Of all the speculation (and it can be no more than that) of what Jesus wrote, the most interesting was that he wrote names. Names that has a particular significance to those men holding the stones.

Thank you! I've been reading commentaries on Queen Vashti all morning and yours is the only one that seems based on context rather than personal opinion! I'm not sure why everyone else seems to want to make Vashti a hero, but I appreciate your willingness to admit that your speculation about things not directly said in scripture is, in fact, speculation.
